Seasoned Rice

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown jasmine rice
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper, optional
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 4 cups water

Directions

  1. Add the rice, garlic powder, thyme, red pepper, salt, and water to a heavy-bottomed pot. Stir just long enough to scatter the seasonings through the rice and water.
  2. Cover the pot, set it over high heat, and bring everything to a full boil. As soon as it is boiling, lower the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, turn off the heat, leave the lid right where it is, and let the rice sit for 20 minutes more.
  3. When the 20 minutes are up, fluff the rice and serve it, or chill it until you are ready to eat. Any extra rice can be frozen for easy meals later.
