Ingredients
- 1 block extra firm tofu
- 3 T Tamari
- 1/2 tsp. sesame oil
- Olive oil, for spraying baking sheet
- Optional: sliced green onions and /or black sesame seeds for garnish
Directions
- Slice the tofu crosswise into half. You can also divide each piece in half again so you have four pieces, even though that is not shown in the photos. Pat both sides of each piece with paper towels, pressing to draw out as much moisture as you can. This does not need the same level of drying as a fast tofu method, but tofu that holds more water will need more time in the oven.
- Heat the oven to 350 F.
- In a small bowl, whisk the sesame oil with the Tamari. Using a pastry brush, coat both sides of the tofu pieces well with the mixture.
- Leave the tofu in the soy-sesame mixture for 5-10 minutes while the oven comes up to temperature.
- Coat a non-stick baking sheet with olive oil or non-stick spray, then arrange the tofu slices on the sheet.
- Bake for about 1 hour without flipping the tofu. Brush on more of the soy-sesame mixture several times as it bakes, continuing until all of the glaze has been used.
- The tofu is ready when it feels firm when pressed, with a shiny glazed surface and good browning. In a toaster oven, the tofu cooked for about 70 minutes.
