How to Make Stove Top Popcorn
Two pantry staples turn into crisp, freshly popped stovetop popcorn with a clean flavor and just the seasoning you choose.
Prep 2 min · Cook 5 min · Total 7 min · Makes about 4 cups

Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp canola or vegetable oil
- 2 Tbsp popcorn kernels
Directions
- Pour the oil into a small sauce pot and drop in 1 popcorn kernel. Cover the pot, set it over medium-high heat, and wait until that kernel pops.
- After the test kernel pops, pour in the remaining kernels, put the lid back on, and swirl the pot so the hot oil coats everything. Let the kernels start popping, swirling the pot again if the oil needs a little help moving around.
- When the popping picks up and becomes fast, open the lid just a crack so extra steam can get out. Do not open it too far, since the pot still needs to stay hot enough to keep the popcorn going.
- As soon as the popping slows down to a few seconds between pops, shut off the heat. Pause for a few extra seconds to catch the last pops, then uncover the pot and season the popcorn. Enjoy.
