Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Directions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan set over medium heat. Stir in the onion and cook until it has softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook just until it smells fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Add the ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, chili powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, then stir everything together. Bring the sauce to a boil, lower the heat, and simmer on low until it thickens slightly, about 30 minutes, stirring often.
- Pour the sauce into the jar of a blender and blend until smooth. Cool it to room temperature, then move it into a jar and refrigerate for up to a month.
