Perfect Steamed Boiled Eggs

Ingredients

  • 1 tray of ice cubes
  • 6 eggs

Directions

  1. If you plan to serve the eggs cold, put 1 tray of ice cubes in a large bowl, then add water.
  2. Pour 1 inch of water into a large pot. Set the steamer insert in the pot, put the lid on, and heat over high until the water boils.
  3. Place the eggs in the steamer basket, cover the pot again, and keep cooking for 6 minutes if you want soft-boiled eggs or 12 minutes if you want hard-boiled eggs.
  4. Serve the eggs right away if you want them hot. For cold eggs, transfer them immediately to the bowl of ice water and leave them there to cool for at least 15 minutes before peeling.
  5. To peel, lightly tap each hard-boiled egg all over so the shell is well cracked, then peel it under a narrow stream of running water. The water slips beneath the shell and helps loosen it from the egg.
