Slow Cooker Marinara

Ingredients

  • 2 28oz. cans crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 1/2 Tbsp garlic, minced
  • 2 whole bay leaves
  • 1 Tbsp dried basil
  • 1/2 Tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Chop the onion into a small dice, then mince the garlic, or grab pre-minced garlic from a jar. Add them to the slow cooker along with the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, bay leaves, basil, oregano, and a few grinds of freshly cracked pepper. Mix everything thoroughly. If your slow cooker runs a little hot or lets steam escape, pour in 1/2 to 1 cup of water too.
  2. Put the lid in place and set the slow cooker to low for 8 hrs.
  3. Take off the lid, stir the sauce, and fish out the bay leaves. Add salt to taste, about 1 tsp if you want a starting point. Spoon it over your favorite pasta.
