Thai-Style Sweet and Sour Steamed Fish

Ingredients

  • 2 small halibut steaks
  • 1/2 cup store-bought Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 red bird's eye chilies, thinly sliced crosswise
  • 2 small shallots, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • Steamed jasmine rice for serving

Directions

  1. Add 1 to 2 inches of water to a large pot or wok, then set a steamer insert in place. If you’d rather use the oven, move the rack to the center and heat it to 350 degrees F. Set the fish steaks in a glass baking dish just large enough to hold them.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the chili sauce, oyster sauce, chilies and shallots. Spoon the mixture over the fish, then seal the dish well with foil. Transfer the dish to the steamer or the oven and cook until the fish is just cooked through, 15 to 20 minutes. Finish with cilantro leaves and serve with steamed jasmine rice.
