Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 square melted unsweetened chocolate
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 9 double graham crackers
  • 3/4 cup best quality dark chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, salt and baking soda, then put it aside. Grease a 13x9x2 inch rectangular pan and set that aside too.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until they’re nicely combined, then add the eggs and beat everything well. In a liquid measuring cup, mix the milk and vanilla. Add the milk mixture and the dry mixture to the creamed mixture in the large bowl, alternating between the two.
  3. Scoop 1/3 of the batter into the medium bowl you used for the flour mixture. Add the melted chocolate and nuts to that batter, and stir until it’s fully mixed. Spread this brownie batter into a thin layer in the prepared pan, then lay the graham crackers over the top.
  4. Stir the chocolate chips into the bowl with the remaining 2/3 of the vanilla batter. Drop that batter by rounded spoonfuls over the graham crackers, then spread it out so the crackers are completely covered.
  5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a cake tester comes out clean. Let the bars cool in the pan, then cut them into rectangular bars or squares.
