Golden Chai

Ingredients

  • 3-4 2-3" cinnamon sticks
  • 1-2 inches fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 10 whole cloves
  • Freshly cracked pepper
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 bags black tea
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp ground turmeric
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 cups milk

Directions

  1. Add the cinnamon sticks, ginger slices, cloves, cracked pepper, and water to a medium sauce pot. Cover the pot, set it over high heat, and bring the mixture to a boil. When it boils, lower the heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes.
  2. Take the pot off the heat, drop in the black tea bags, cover it again, and steep for 4-5 minutes. Strain the tea into a bowl using a fine mesh strainer or colander.
  3. Whisk in the vanilla, honey, and turmeric until the mixture is combined. Taste it, then adjust the sweetness or spices if you’d like. The Golden Chai tea mix can be chilled and kept in the refrigerator for a few days.
  4. For each drink, warm 8oz. of milk using the stove top, microwave, or steamer, then mix it with 8oz. of the hot golden chai tea mix. Stir the Golden Chai tea mix right before adding it to the milk. Serve hot.
