Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- Zest of 1/2 orange
- 3 Tbsp heavy cream
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp orange extract
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- Red and yellow food coloring, optional
Directions
- Place the white chocolate chips in a mixing bowl and leave them nearby.
- In a small saucepan, warm the butter with the orange zest until the butter has melted. Stir in the cream and heat the mixture until scalded.
- Strain the hot cream mixture through a fine mesh sieve directly over the white chocolate chips. Use a rubber spatula to press the zest against the sieve so the orange oils make it into the bowl, then add the orange extract.
- Let the mixture sit for 1 minute. Add the optional food coloring, if using, and stir until the white chocolate mixture is smooth.
- Cover the bowl and chill it in the refrigerator for 2 hours, or until it is firm enough to work with.
- Scoop the mixture in heaping teaspoonfuls, shape each portion into a ball, and coat the truffles in powdered sugar.
- Freeze the truffles for 20 minutes, then enjoy. Store them in the refrigerator because they soften at room temperature, or freeze them for up to 1 month.
